Application

Language

PREDATOR can display its messages in several languages. Choose your preferred language in this dropdown list.
If your language is not yet available, you may submit your own translation (see FAQ: "How to translate PREDATOR in another language ?")

AutoStart with Windows

Check this box to automatically launch PREDATOR after opening a Windows session, or leave it unchecked if you prefer a manual launch from the Start Menu / Programs / Predator our via the PREDATOR Desktop icon.

Enable pause

Check this box to enable the "Pause monitoring" item in the Contextual Menu. It is sometimes convenient to suspend monitoring if you want to remove your USB flash drive without locking your PC. However, you may forget to resume monitoring, leaving your PC unprotected. Unchecking this option will prevent this security risk.

Enable exit

You can disable the Exit option in Predator's menu by unchecking this box. If you also disable the "Pause monitoring option", the "Enable Task Manager" option, and choose to protect the Preferences with a password (see below), then PREDATOR will permanently monitor your PC.

Check for updates

Once a week, PREDATOR will retrieve update information from our server and notify you if a new version is available. It is a good idea to run the most recent version of the software, as we improve it on a regular basis. Uncheck this setting if you don't want PREDATOR to query our server.

Protect Preferences

If you check this option, you'll be forced to enter your password each time you try to open the Preferences window.

Enable splash screen

This screen gives visual feedback to user during program initialization; uncheck this option if you prefer a quiet startup.

Enable Task Manager

Predator disables Windows Task Manager when your session is locked, to prevent intruders to kill the PREDATOR process.
If you check this box the Task Manager will be available when your session is not locked (i.e. when your USB key is plugged in). You can uncheck it for permanently disabling the Task Manager while PREDATOR is running. This option should be used in conjunction with "Enable exit" to prevent an unwanted termination of the PREDATOR monitoring.

Log

the Log settings

Enable local log

This box should be normally checked. Uncheck it if you want to completely disable logging.

Open log after alarm

Check this option if you want PREDATOR to automatically show the application's Log if an alarm had been triggered while your session was locked.

Twitter settings:

Enable Twitter Log

If you check this option PREDATOR will log access-control events to a Twitter account after writing them in the local log file.
It will optionally send corresponding Direct Messages to another Twitter account.
If you enable email or SMS notifications for this account, you'll receive an email or an SMS each time PREDATOR logs an access-control event.

PIN

Twitter uses a PIN-based authentication to allow applications to access your Twitter account.
To grant PREDATOR permission to log messages to your account:
  • Click the Request Twitter PIN button: this will start your brower and show Twitter's authorization dialog.
  • Login to your Twitter account: Twitter will display a PIN number.
  • Copy/Paste this PIN in Predator's PIN textbox and click the Enter PIN button.
  • Predator will display your Twitter account name in the Username field.

Level

This drop-down list filters the events which should be replicated on Twitter:
  • Information=replicate all events
  • Warning=replicate major events
  • Alert=replicate critical events.
  • None=disable events replication

DM Level

This drop-down list filters the events which should be sent as Direct Messages:
  • Information=send all events
  • Warning=send major events
  • Alert=send critical events.
  • None=disable Direct Messages. Select None if you don't want to send Email or SMS upon intrusion attempts.
Notice that PREDATOR will still send Direct Messages if you have disabled events replication in the above Level filter.

DM Recipient

This optional field contains the Twitter username of the recipient of PREDATOR's Direct Messages.
Use another account than the previous one, because a Twitter account cannot send Direct Messages to itself.
Important: This account must Follow the previous one in order to receive Direct Messages originating from it. In the above screenshot, "JohnSmith" follows "PredatorLog".
Leave this field blank if you don't want to send Email or SMS upon intrusion attempts.

Test button

You can click this button after entering your access codes, and PREDATOR will send a test message to your Twitter account.
If you have defined a DM Recipient then PREDATOR will also send her a test direct message.
